The Process of Photosynthesis
äžçŽ
Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants create their own food using sunlight. It mainly takes place in the leaves, which contain a green substance called chlorophyll. During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air and water from the ground. When sunlight hits the leaves, the energy from the light helps convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose, a type of sugar. Oxygen is also produced as a byproduct and released into the air. This process is essential not only for plants, but also for animals and humans because it produces the oxygen we need to breathe. In addition, the glucose made by plants provides energy for growth and becomes the foundation of the food chain. Without photosynthesis, life on Earth would not be possible.
